What is Mochi?

Mochi is a glutinous rice dessert that has carried great cultural significance in East Asia, especially Japan. The idea of steaming rice and turning it into a paste originated in China but was introduced to Japan around 300 BC, but it wasn’t until the 6th century that every household in Japan owned a steamer so they could take part in making their own mochi. In the Heinan period, mochi was used to celebrate families- it was common for babies to be fed mochi when they were 50 days old, and it was also customary for the families of newlyweds to eat mochi together 3 days after the wedding.

The tradition of Kagami Mochi originated from the samurai, who would adorn their mochi in Japanese armor and swords and display them on an altar during the new year celebrations to pray for prosperity. It was considered offensive to cut these mochi with a knife, as it would offend the spirits, but instead they would wait for the mochi to dry and then break it with a hammer.

What does EMME's Mochi fragrance smell like?

Our Mochi fragrance leads with the smell of fresh strawberries- bright and sweet. The scent develops with the help of sweet cream to make the overall fragrance milky and dessert-like, before being rounded out in the base notes with the starch of rice flour. A must try for anyone who loves strawberry mochi!

If you're a fan of wood wick candles, you know that they can bring a cozy, warm atmosphere to any room. But in order to get the most out of your wood wick candle, it's important to properly care for it. Here are a few tips for keeping your wood wick candle burning bright:

-Trim the wick: Before lighting your wood wick candle, be sure to trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This will help prevent the flame from becoming too large and will ensure that your candle burns evenly.

-Burn for at least an hour: The first time you light your wood wick candle, be sure to burn it for at least an hour. This will allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the jar, which will prevent tunnelling (when the wax only melts down the center of the candle).

-Keep the wax pool clear: As your wood wick candle burns, be sure to keep the wax pool clear of any debris, such as wick trimmings or matches. This will help the candle burn smoothly and will prevent the flame from becoming obstructed.

-Don't burn for too long: While it's important to burn your wood wick candle for at least an hour at a time, you don't want to burn it for too long. A good rule of thumb is to burn your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time. This will help prevent the wax from overheating and will extend the life of your candle.

-Store properly: When you're not using your wood wick candle, be sure to store it in a cool, dry place. This will help prevent the wax from melting and will keep your candle in good condition.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your wood wick candle for longer and create a warm, inviting atmosphere in your home. Happy candle burning!

Good enough to eat

Seriously, as soon as I smelled the candle…I had to hold back the urge to lick it. IT SMELLS SO DELICIOUS. OMG. Will be buying a full size as soon as it’s done. Highly recommend.

Smells nice, but not like mochi

I ordered four candles, and really enjoyed the scent of the other three! This one, while still pleasant, was kind of a letdown. I read the notes before purchasing, and, because of the presence of both rice flour and strawberry as notes, was hoping this would evoke strawberry chichi dango, but this smells more like strawberry pocky.
I think I'd be more happy with that, but the sweet cream and strawberry notes read a bit more artificial, almost like the scented rubber clothes polly pockets wore. This is still a nice scent memory, it's just not the one I expected.

will definitely buy again! Smells amazing! One of my favourite candles so far!! :)
