What is Pumpkin Persimmon? Our pumpkin persimmon candle is a combination of both fruits, which are both famously associated with fall in different parts of the world. The pumpkin traces its roots back over 9000 years to North America- the oldest pumpkin seeds in the world were discovered in Mexico. It was a staple in the diet of early indigenous tribes and Native Americans, symbolic of the fall harvest before it was adopted by European colonists in the 17th century.
The persimmon is more recent, but still ancient- tracing its roots back 2000 years to China. While many East Asian cultures such as South Korea and Japan include the persimmon in their culture, China remains to this day the largest consumer of persimmons worldwide. The persimmon is cut and seeded and served similar to an apple in Western culture- in Chinese culture, it is a symbol of good luck and longevity.
